3.3 YOUTH RETENTION The retention of young people was reported as being an issue in many regions. Thirty-seven RDA committees reported experiencing an out-migration of youth aged 15 to 30 years who leave the region to pursue education, training and employment opportunities and because of a lack of recreational facilities (see also section 4.6 ‘Youth Support’). Addressing the reasons why young people may leave a region was a high priority for many RDA committees, such as the Wheatbelt RDA in Western Australia (RDA Wheatbelt Inc., 2011, p. 23).
